[TRANS] The release of FEEL interview with Genie - Junho

Q. You are greeting your fans through your second album a year after the release of your first solo album in Japan. Please say a comeback comment to the fans who have been waiting for you~

A. Everyone of the Genie family, hello~ This is 2PM’s Junho! After about a year, I’m meeting everyone with my second solo album. I think it becomes more meaningful this time around as I can also meet you through the Korean version of it especially. ^^  Since I really worked hard to prepare it, please give lots of love~

Q. Please introduce the title track FEEL!

A. Yes,  it is a track that mixes the electronic sound of basic trend with the nostalgic melodies from the past 90s’ sensitivity. The song is about someone’s life that usually passes meaninglessly but turns into colorful and beautiful from monochrome days once he meets his loved one.

Q. Do you write and compose all the tracks for your solo album this time as well?

A. Yes, following my first solo album, I also tried to write, compose, even produce this album, if my first solo album ‘Kimino Koe’ was a casual album with only a little bit of power, this album ‘FEEL’ is a really dynamic and lively album which can truly shows myself.

Q. What is the music that can display the self of ‘Junho’? 

A. A continuously changing self?^^ I’m not picky on genres. If you listen to this album from the beginning until the end, it is packed with various genres, starting from dance, rock, acoustic, until ballad.

Q. On July 9^th, the release day of your album in Japan, you achieved triple champion, your comment at that time?

A. My album ranked 1^st on the music sector of Oricon Daily Chart, Tower Record Daily Chart, and HMV Music Show on the release day. My comment at that time… That it’s awesome?^^ I think it only made me think to do even better for the lots of  love I have received.  

Q. You seems eager about solo activities, from solo album, solo Japan tour, Chinese drama OST, even movie casting. Next planning for your activities?

A. I spent this summer being really busy. Solo album and tour, I’ve also started the filming for my new movie ‘Twenty’ recently. Although I have many works, I feel good because I’m rather busy. In coming future, I would like to keep on being busy with working as a singer and actor, I want to grasp them all. Since it will be better for me not to do everything altogether if I can’t do one of them, I want to absolutely do well in both of them. Ah, and it’s planned for me to greet everyone as a member of 2PM soon. It is coming really soon! Please look forward to it. ^^

But, originally Junho is, really suave and charming. And, he is a cool boy with smiling face ♥

To commemorate the release of his 2nd solo mini album “FEEL”, we will deliver a dense interview with full answers, from music to his favorite girl type!

Q. Your own personality in one word?

Fire. It’s not that I get angry quickly, but when things aren’t decided quickly I can’t stand it and become frustrated. That kind of impatient personality.

Q. Your opinion about older women?

I like them. Not simply because of their age, but because I think they’re reliable, responsible, cool, and they have many things that I can learn about.

Of course, when it comes to love, I’ll think of them as ‘a girl’ even when they are older!

Q. Will you confess on yourself to the woman whom you like?

When I think I don’t want to miss that person, I think I will confess.

Personally, I don’t want to burden the woman that much though,

but because I think I need to push her until some point, I think I will frequently contact her saying “Let’s meet!”

Q. Where will you go for your first date?

Amusement park. We will conquer the rollercoaster and the others!

Q. Something given from a woman that makes you happy?

When she unexpectedly cares for me.

Like how she indifferently gives me a towel when I’m sweaty, or how she covered my shoulders with something when I’m dozing on the sofa.

On the contrary, if there’s a woman whom I like, and she does them to me, or when it’s my lover who does them to me, I think I will be greatly happy!

But, it will be hard to find such a lover, right?

Q. If someone dates Junho, what previliege will she get?

The world’s thrill or speed, I will make her experience all the exciting things!

Q. What action from a woman that attracts you?

I think, tucking her hair behind her ear is a feminine act.

Just a half year ago, I was filming a movie so my hair was long, I often tuck my hair behind my ears. (laughs)

Q. What is a woman’s fashion that you find cute?

White t-shirt with jeans, I like a simple style.

JUNHO (From 2PM) is back with his 2nd album “FEEL”, which is more refined based on the pop element than the previous fresh “Kimi no Koe”.

An A to Z interview with 26 questions about the present of the 24 years old blonde, who pulls off a difficult acrobatic dance with his cute smiling face.

[They are big that at some point, Jun. K hyung who saw me holding the mic said, “It’s good that your hands are big. Your face looks smaller when you holds mic.”

You see? My hands are similar in size to Chansung’s in the group.]

A Anniversary If you are to make any commemoration day?

My birthday on January 25th and my solo debut day in Japan on July 24th.

With this, the days which I can enjoy with the fans will be added by two day, right? I want to spend it with the fans by making an enjoyful planning. 

B Blood Type Blood Type

A person who meets me for the first time is usually surprised when I say I have type A blood. Everyone says I look like B or O type.

Although I’m surprisingly careful when I’m alone, I am not at all when I’m with other people~

I’m also certain about my opinions. For reference, type A = timid image in Korea. It’s different in Japan, isn’t it.

C Chansung What are your relationship?

I’m on a dangerous relationship with Chansung (laughs). Although we live in the same dorm, we are close neighbors with our rooms face-to-face.

We also use the same toilet and bathrooms. Recently, we see anything each other do as the door doesn’t close properly (laughs). Although I used to think like well~ during our debut days, I’m now used to it no matter what as we have continuously lived together for years. Now think about it, when I was showering last time, I was washing up in a bathroom and I wasn’t necessarily surprised to see him eventhough I initally thought nobody’s there.

D Dream Now, a dream you want to fulfill

I have fulfilled the dreams I have had until now. To be a singer, solo debut, solo tour.

This year, I also fulfilled the dream I had last year, to have a solo concert in Budokan.

That’s why my dream for next year... To do a solo tour that makes me happy like this again! Though it stays as my personal thought, I wish it can be fulfilled.

E Emperor You have something like “Emperor” in you

Although I know that the fans call me “Emperor Junho” or “Oresama”, I absolutely don’t know why they call me so.

I, for real, only have a little “Oresama” part in me.

Usually, I’m really kind-hearted. I also say things like “I love you~”. I’m one to properly express affections...  

(*Oresama is a way to say ‘me’ in an arrogant way in Japanese. Basically, to think very highly of yourself.)

F Feel 2nd solo album

In the beginning, I imagined about something like riding a motorbike. A moment when I experience something for the first time in my life.

And, a moment where I realize that the said first experience is something that directly fits me.

I myself got excited from the deepest part of my heart.

By thinking that emotion is every important, I made “FEEL” with the will to convey it somehow.

Although this song describes about love, it’s not only that, it also contains that “excited” feeling of mine from the experiences I obtain as I get older.

G Growth Becoming an adult

Unlike the previous solo activities, or activities as a member of 2PM,

I come to realize that [It’s not simple to work as a solo, but it will lead to a big responsibility.]

And this time as I’m having activities with that though in mine, I think I have grown in some aspect.

For the atmosphere of the album, if the previous one was casual, this second one contains energy, with a point of being more active. 

H Hair The reason of your blonde hair

I was long-haired for about 6 months for movie filming.­ Although I lived by putting my long hair up at home, I couldn’t get used to it no matter what (laughs).

I decided that Once the movie is over, I’ll definitely cut it!

I was determinend and made it short, with blonde colour. Fortunately the album concept also includes blonde hair.

I haven’t changed my hairstyle since “HANDS UP”, but the response from the people around me is faint. Only until the point of So you changed your hair~

Even so, now that I think about it, I didn’t quite listen to other people’s opinions about my blonde hair since I myself really like it (laughs).

Although there was discomforts at the beginning when I changed my hairstyle, I have now become used to it after the last few months.

I’m also thinking about changing to another hairstyle.

Maybe I’ll change it, during the tour!?

An honest talk that reaches his inner self goes off. Reaching to the current matured side of him as an artist!

—You released “FEEL” album as JUNHO (From 2PM), what are the things you became conscious of while working on this album, a big difference from the previous piece of work?

Junho: I think the important point is that I want to show a musically matured side of me compared to the last time, this one is more dynamic and active, and I made this wanting to show the side of me which I haven’t in the first album.

—The reason and the meaning of “FEEL” as the title track? 

Junho: Because the word “FEEL” came into mind first. There is a word that equally expresses Feel in  Korea (in Japan, it’s Feeling) though, I don’t know for what reason that the word appeared but since then it stayed and wouldn’t leave my mind.

Then I made the title track, I completed a song which can be divided into various parts, one that can have a playful element and one in which a longing can be felt in the chorus. There are many stimulating and straight songs recently but I described it as I focused on properly putting a fashionable element and a melody that can arouse that longing for 80s, 90s’ sensitivity. New stuffs together with a nostalgic music, those are the sound concept of this album.

—You are really experiencing a solo tour, the things you feel with the fans during that influenced you for the title track to be named “FEEL”, don’t they?

Junho: Of course they do! I think it was a chance to motivate me in wanting to have a better concert in a bigger venue, and also a chance for me to be able to upgrade my step musically.

—With the overall theme, do you have a message in common to convey?

Junho: Basically, it’s something that I currently think, and currently feel, although it’s filled with the things I want to convey to everyone, the big theme is “love”.

I think “love” has various forms and emotions, but I tried to express various categories of love in each song. In “FEEL”, there is a line of “To change monochrome days by painting it with colours”, it is the lyric that I like the most from the album and I think that it is the one that express my message the best. A sensation like being shaken out of an ordinary daily life, I’m describing that sensation when meeting a certain person.

—You worked on all of the tracks on this album, but was there any distress during the process?

Junho: Strangely there was almost none of necessarily difficult songs, I really made it with fun. The uniquely difficult one during the recording was “Turn It Up”. It was hard to pronounce the quick rap in Japanese.

—There is a line of The world stops the time in the lyric of “FEEL”, if you could stop the time, when would you go back to?

Junho: We were asked a similar question when we were having schedules as 2PM before, I remember Nichkhun hyung answered (that he wanted to go to) dinosaur era, but I think it would be no fun if I could stop the time. Because, nothing else move except for me. That’s totally no fun (laughs). Rather than going back to the past as the time stops, I think it will be more fun to go to the next 10 years in the future.

—If Junho are to listen this album in the next 10 years, how do you think you will respond?

Junho: It’s cute, huh~ (laughs).

—What do you mean?

Junho: Because I’m likely to keep making music like this even after 10 years, I think it’s obvious that I will be matured along with more various sides of me by then. While I think that my current sensitivity and youthfulness are fresh, on the contraty, I think I’d probably be embarassed to see it as I will lose both of them (after 10 years).

—There is a line of A little devil whom I can’t take my eyes off in the lyric of “Dangerous”, do you think you are a little devil type?

Junho: No, I am not.

After a year since 1st solo album “Kimi no Koe”, JUNHO (From 2PM) is back!

Fans’ long-awaited 2nd solo mini album “FEEL” is released on July 9th.

Like the previous album, this second album was also self written, composed and produced, is filled with a sparkling dynamism!

It’s shining with each of the 6 tracks’ exclusive power, up-tempo, medium tune, ballad etc.

An interview of Junho who said, “I want to try variedmusic. I have no anxiety.”

「The things I express are what I’m currently feeling. I don’t want to be particular on the genres. 」


—It’s a work piece after about 1 year though, what meaning does this time’s “FEEL” album contain?

Junho: Following the previous one, I also self-produced this album, I expressed the things that the ‘present self of mine’ feel, the circumstance that currently exists, the way of thinking that I obtain as I get older or my value. While the previous “Kimi no Koe” was casual and refreshing, I think “FEEL” is something that can contain pop and activeness. I want to try listening to varied music, and I want to try making it as well. That’s why I’m trying my best to not be limited by one genre only when I produce songs.

—Because there is a sound transition and the melody is certain, it felt like a good qualitied POPS. Though I think you need a courage to challenge a varied music.

Junho: I have no anxiety. Because it hasn’t been that long since I made my own music and now, the various things inside me are burning to the surface, and I strongly felt that I want to make those into a reality.


—Regarding your self-producing, did you have it smoother than the previous time?

Junho: It was my first mini album that time and I along with the staff were playing it safe but this time although the production period is shorter, we were able to work smoothly. I have never thought that making songs are tiring too. I was able to enjoy in doing it. I’m really satisfied with the result.


—So it’s a work piece which Junho can enjoy while working on it. Do you put much attention into writing and composing the songs?

Junho: Regarding the songs, I always pay attention on whether I’m able to express my own emotions properly through the music or not. I also made the songs with Hong Jisang this time. There are songs which I made the melody until some extent and we exchanged our opinions later on this and that stuff, there are songs that we made together from the beginning. Regarding the lyrics, “Next to you” contains something that I want to convey the most. It’s simply my current story. Because I made it for my family, the fans, or people who love me, I think it will be good if they can be touched with that intention of mine.

—As the production period wasn’t that long, seems like you needed an ability to concentrate. How did you raise that ability of yours?

Junho: Whenever I have the time, I will go to Hong Jisang’s studio. I almost pratically settled to eat there too (laughs). It’s a place that feels like home to me until such extent. Although Hong Jisang is similar to a hyung with whom I have had a good relationship even before both of us became pro, we also have a friend-like-relationship because we spent many times in playing and working.

—Is there a new thing that you realized when you worked on this album?

Junho: I found that I can stand being sleepy but I can’t with being hungry (laughs). And, although this is not something that I only found out this time, I can’t force myself to make a song when I can’t. There were many times when I forced myself to do it, but I eventually abandoned it in the process, just thought of it as an awful song when I listen to it the next day.

Song, dance, writing-composing, acrobatic, acting... Top all-rounder in 2PM!

  

“Of course I’m happy to receive the praises but, I myself am still not satisfied with some things. If it’s something that I can pull off well then acrobatic is something I’m relatively confident in. Something that I can’t do well, to make others be fascinated to me... I feel a bit shy to go in front of people saying “How am I!” and to appeal them. I want to be a bit bolder!”

2. -Tsundere- Bitter&Sweet

Your nickname is “Emperor”! Are you the opposite from the “mom’s boy” attitude like “oresama”?

(Oresama is a way to say ‘me’ in an arrogant way in Japanese. Basically, to think very highly of yourself.)

  

“I know that the fans call me ‘Oresama’ (laughs). It’s not that I’m self-counscious and act like it though, why is it like that... Seems like I know a bit of the reason why they call me ‘Tsundere’ (laughs). But originally, I’m not a typical ‘mom’s boy’! To behave like a spoilt boy is, to stomp your feet and go ‘Buy me this~ buy me this~’ right? The one that wants to be looked after is Jun. K hyung. He sometimes comes while massaging his shoulders then says ‘Give my neck a massage’. The moment when I’m asking to be pampered is, only when I have a girlfriend. I won’t say such things like ‘Buy me this~ Buy me this~ (laughs).”

3. -Stylish- Fashionista

A constant sensitivity on fashion. He also has a fondness in plain clothes!

  

“I’m recently drawn to simple and comfy to wear clothes. Brands which I’m currently interested in are PIGALLE and OPENING CEREMONY. I’m gathering informantion while seeing a site that handles imported clothes, or going to a select shop. I also recently tried blonde for my hairstyle after a long time. It hurt in the beginning but not I get used to it (laughs).”

  

4. Pureness

Touched by fans’ surprise event... An honest pureness without a beginning and an end.

  

“Between the ‘me’ as an idol artist and the real ‘me’... I think there’s almost no difference. Although I’m not sure what kind of image that everyone get out of me, I think my personality is as you can imagine (laughs). The most recent ocassion when I cried was, when I was in a packed car, practicing my act while reading the script of the movie I recently filmed. My tears came out only until the length of 3 cm, it stopped there (laughs).”

Junho is releasing his mini album “FEEL” after about a year. This album, which he produced on his own, is said to be a piece of work that contains a meaning of current “Life-sized Me”


“Although my 1st Mini Album “Kimi No Koe”, released last year, was a refreshing album with refresing atmosphere, this album became one where I dance unknowingly to myself because of the brightness and dynamism it has. I hope everyone who will listen to this album, which I enjoyed producing all the tracks with the composer hyungs, will feel the current “Junho”, a different one from the last year’s.”

Let’s ask him what his reason is in choosing “FEEL” as a title track for the album that contains various genred songs in it.

“Because it was the first song that came into mind? (Laughs)” he answered that with humour.

“This is my personal thought but there are many of recently popular song which are provocative and they give great impacts, right. But I think that the melodies that stay in one’s heart through his nostalgic feeling towards an old song, are cool. Although it’s monotonous, I thought that it would be good if there were such song that can remind one of past times suddenly. That’s why during the production of “FEEL” I thought I want to mix that both sides. A melody that contains the current popular beat and that nostalgic feeling. It would be nice if these two elements could be enjoyed at the same time.”

Is there a song that you’d like to recommend for “anan” female readers who are working?

“It should be “Always (Zutto)” This song sings about one’s crush developping in him who meets a certain someone and thinks about that someone all the times eventhough they’re not lovers yet. How that someone always appears when he’s at home, when he closes his eyes, even in his dream... The song fully contains that kind of exciting feelings. Because, I think it’s important for such an exciting moment during one’s ordinary life to exist. So I hope you’ll listen to the song on your way from work~!”

Junho who is usually doing a group activity in 2PM. We’re also curious about the other members’ response, about this album.

“I recently gave Minjun hyung and Chansung a listen. Both of them praised me by saying “It’s good.” I also gave Wooyoung a listen but he said “I don’t know if I only listen to it only once.” (Laughs) Referring to my solo activities, the members really don’t say anything. Because I also did last year, it just feels like “You’ll do well again for this time also” from them. But they usually come to see my concert or text me with “Have strength!” They show it more in actions rather than words. That gives me strength. I’m thankful for it.”
